One block in America. Six businesses on the brink of disaster
As of 2019, there were an estimated 30.7 million small businesses in the US, employing 59.9 million people, or almost half of the private sector workforce. Small businesses drive the American economy, but as the coronavirus pandemic has proven, they do so from a cliff. Many are about to fall off.
Behind those numbers are the actual people who own and work at the small businesses. It's impossible to tell all of their stories, but we can tell some. So last week we talked to the owners of six small businesses on a block of Colorado Boulevard in Los Angeles about their hopes and fears right now.
Kristen Bell Says Studio Metamorphosis Is The Workout That Makes Her Feel (And Look) Crazy-Strong
Kristen is a muscular 5'1½", but until this past year, she had never done one workout consistently. About a year ago, however, she found what she likes to call “Studio Morph,” and for the first time in her life, she fell in love with exercise.
“I’ve always felt mentally strong because I’m adept and can banter and hold my own in a good conversation,” says Kristen. “But I’ve never felt physically strong. I felt waifish…or pregnant. And I’m loving the fact that if we ever get attacked by ninjas, I would be a valuable asset.”
Kristen Bell, 39, gave up on abs after welcoming kids but then found a cardio-Pilates class which made the difference: 'I feel so much stronger'
The 39-year-old revealed she had found a new workout studio a year ago and her toned abs were 'a perk.'
'I'm not in love with working out and I've never really found a class that I love like this. Something about this class gets me,' she said.
'I started doing this, and I was like, "I’m still roughly the same size but now it’s just all muscle" ... I feel so much stronger, and it's a physical feeling, but it's also a mental feeling. It's about the muscle value in my body.'
Kristen went on to say that she's never felt 'physically strong' until now since going to the classes.
Kristen Bell Says This Hybrid Fitness Class Helped Her Get Her Abs Back Post-Kids
As the cover star for the Mind Issue of Women's Health, Kristen revealed she hasn't always felt physically strong, though. That all changed when Kristen discovered the workouts at Studio Metamoprhosis in Los Feliz, California.
Kristen says she discovered the studio—which incorporates cardio, circuit training, Pilates, and CrossFit elements into challenging classes—about a year ago. She has been going consistently ever since, attending about three classes per week. "I've fallen so in love with it," Kristen told Women's Health.
We're All About Kristen Bell's Realistic Approach to Working Out
"I've tried a ton of workouts in LA and have realized that I need maximum ass-kicking in the shortest amount of time," she says. So after a lot of hit and miss, Bell has settled on a workout studio called Studio Metamorphosis. "It's basically a cross between Pilates and CrossFit and pretty much the worst class I've ever taken," she jokes.
